The Republican Test of 2025: Where the Hell Are You?
About the Week Your President Said 'Maximum Lethality, Not Tepid Legality'—And You Said Nothing
Act I: The Betrayal of Principles
Ronald Reagan stood at the Berlin Wall and demanded freedom. This week, Donald Trump stood in the Oval Office and celebrated executing civilians without trial.
Where were you?
Barry Goldwater warned that a government powerful enough to give you everything can take everything. This week, Trump renamed the Department of Defense the "Department of War." Pete Hegseth declared: "Maximum lethality, not tepid legality. Violent effect, not politically correct."
Those aren't American words. They're dictator words.
And Mike Johnson? He's out there claiming Trump was an FBI informant against Epstein—a lie so desperate it insults every American's intelligence.
Where's your Howard Baker? Where's your Barry Goldwater? Where's your spine?
Act II: The Week Democracy Burned
Let's be absolutely clear about what happened, in just this week:
Venezuela: U.S. forces killed eleven civilians on a speedboat. Trump celebrated it on television. Celebrated dead civilians like a victory lap without the need to prove who they were and what they were really doing.
The Pentagon Becomes "Department of War": Not defense. War. Hegseth promises "maximum lethality, not tepid legality." When law doesn't matter, only killing, what do we call that?
Georgia ICE Raid: 475 workers arrested—mostly South Korean nationals. Our allies watch us round up their citizens en masse. They're reconsidering what American friendship means.
F-35s Over Puerto Rico: American warplanes intimidating American citizens. Trump threatens Portland and Chicago next. "They'll learn why it's called the Department of WAR." Those are Americans he's threatening. Then followed it up with this on Saturday:
Billionaire Tribute: Zuckerberg, Cook, Gates pledge hundreds of billions in "partnership." When private wealth bows this obviously to political power, that's not capitalism. It's something much darker.
The Beijing Alliance: Xi, Putin, Kim reviewing nuclear weapons together. Modi joining them. The world's largest democracy chose dictators over us. Trump's response? "Warmest regards."
Reagan built the coalition that won the Cold War. Trump just handed it to Beijing. Then he followed that up by declaring war on an American city. And you said nothing.
Act III: The Question You Won't Answer
When Texas Guard units enter Illinois on presidential orders, when Florida troops patrol Portland, when Alabama soldiers occupy Chicago—what do we call that?
Lincoln would weep. Eisenhower would court-martial anyone who suggested it. Even Nixon—NIXON—never threatened to send troops against American cities.
But Trump? He's promising it. And Republicans? Silent as graves.
The Grift You're Ignoring
While America burns, Trump's counting crypto:
$5 billion in $WLFI tokens this week
$15.9 billion family wealth, mostly speculative tokens
80% controlled by Trump insiders
More than all other Trump businesses combined
Reagan divested his ranch. Carter sold his peanut farm. Trump turned the presidency into a personal ATM, and you're acting like it's normal.
You screamed about Hunter Biden for years. Trump's making billions AS PRESIDENT and you say nothing.
That's not hypocrisy anymore. It's complicity.
The World Prepares for What You Won't Stop
This week's reality:
Xi, Putin, Kim: United against us
India: Chose them over us
Europe: Building field hospitals for mass casualties
France: Preparing 50,000 beds by March 2026
26 nations: Aligned against American leadership
They're not preparing for nothing. They see what's coming. They remember what fascism looks like.
And the Republican Party? Paralyzed. Silent. Complicit.
Nixon's Ghost Judges You
Let's be brutally honest: Nixon was a crook. But he was an American crook.
Nixon never said law doesn't matter, only lethality. Nixon never celebrated dead civilians on TV. Nixon never threatened Minneapolis with F-35s. Nixon never sent "warmest regards" to enemies. Nixon never made billions while president.
And Republicans STILL stopped him.
In 1974, your predecessors walked into the Oval Office and told a president of their own party: Enough. It's over.
That took courage. That took patriotism. That took balls.
Where are yours?
The Brutal Truth
The courts won't stop this—he owns them. Democrats can't stop this—they lack the votes. The military won't stop this—they follow "maximum lethality" now. The press can't stop this—they're locked out or intimidated.
Only Republicans can stop this. Only you.
But you're not stopping it. You're enabling it through silence, deflection, and cowardice.
We see your private concerns. The worried texts. The hallway whispers. You KNOW this is wrong. You KNOW where this leads.
But knowing isn't enough anymore. Concern isn't enough. Private worry means nothing when public capitulation continues.
Your Real Choice
This isn't complicated. You face two options:
Option One: Keep your heads down. Stay silent. Hope history forgets your names. Accept that "Republican" now means supporting executing civilians, threatening American cities, and turning the presidency into a crime syndicate.
Option Two: Stand up RIGHT NOW. Say no to Trump. Walk into that Oval Office like Goldwater did with Nixon. Reclaim actual conservative principles—limited government, rule of law, constitutional order. Be Republicans your founders would recognize.
We both know which takes courage.
The Violence Approaches
Next week, "maximum lethality" becomes doctrine. Next week, the Department of War plans domestic operations. Next week, those F-35s could turn toward Portland. Next week, Americans might start killing Americans.
France isn't building 50,000 hospital beds for nothing. They've seen this before. They know what comes next.
Do you?
History's Question
When your grandchildren ask where you were when:
The president celebrated killing civilians
American warplanes threatened American cities
India abandoned us while Trump sent "warmest regards" to dictators
The president made $5 billion while democracy collapsed
What will you tell them?
That you were scared of mean tweets? That you worried about primary challenges? That you were waiting for someone else to go first?
Or will you tell them you were real Republicans who chose America over authoritarianism?
Last Call for Courage
You know what's happening. You know it's wrong. You know where it leads. You know you could stop it.
The question isn't whether you see the danger. It's whether you'll act.
History doesn't care about your excuses. It remembers who stood up and who stayed seated. Who had courage and who had only cowardice.
In 1974, Republicans saved America from Nixon. In 2025, will Republicans save America from Trump?
Or will you be the ones who let the Republic fall because you were too scared to stand up to one man?
The Choice Is Now
If red-state troops enter blue cities while Xi and Putin toast our self-destruction, that's not governance. That's civil war.
And when it comes—when Americans kill Americans on Trump's orders while you sit silent—that blood is on your hands.
Every drop. Forever.
Choose now. Choose courage. Choose America.
Or own your cowardice and its consequences forever.
The Republic is watching. History is recording. Your grandchildren will know.
What will you choose?
Things that everyone can do.
CHRISTOPHER ARMITAGE does a great job here on what you can do to help give Republican leaders a spine.
